Hawaiian Lomilomi: Big Island Massage (I M Publishing, 2000) was the first 'how to' book on lomilomi to be published. It was later revised and reprinted (2005, ISBN 0-9677253-2-1) and translated into German and Japanese editions. A Hawaii licensed massage therapist since 1977, Kahalewai founded two massage schools on the Big Island of Hawaii, co-directed the Kona Ironman Triathlon massage team (1982-1986) and the Volcano Marathon (1994-1999), and founded Island Moonlight Retreat at Morere Hot Springs, New Zealand in 2006.
